Building a home is no easy task and it is definitely not a quick and easy process, but it is a fun, stressful, and exciting adventure that I cannot wait to share with you all!
After meeting with our bank and figuring out our budget, we found our lot. We purchased it roughly a year ago and we LOVE it! It is on the water and close to town with a clubhouse that has a gym, a swimming pool, kitchen, and steam room. Our neighborhood has gorgeous sidewalks and is right across from the ball fields which will be great for our little one!
We then spoke with a few different builders in our area to get a general idea of cost per square foot. Once we decided on our builder we used his company’s general cost per square foot for what we were thinking for our home to know what size of house fit in our budget.
When designing and choosing our house plan we had to first think of the things that were important to us in a home. For us, it included an open concept with most everything on the main floor. We also decided that a second space for entertaining or for people to stay was necessary, which is why we chose to add a bonus room on the second floor. Our plan is a 3 bed, 3 bath, with a 450 square foot bonus room. We have 10 foot ceilings throughout and all of the bedrooms, kitchen, dining, and living have vaulted ceilings.
We then started brainstorming on the style of home that would mesh our two styles and we came up with a rustic farmhouse concept. We had walked through countless homes and picked what we liked and didn’t like from each. I highly recommend finding a style that you like and walking through a home that is similar in order to get a feel for the space and deciding what is important to you and what you can live without.
I then took out some graft paper and drew out a general concept of what I had envisioned in my head. We then chose our home designer who was local to the area, which I feel is another important key point. We get a lot of snow and crazy weather in Montana and having someone that knows the area and what specifications our city would need for approval was seamless.
We are so happy with our plans and SO excited to get started! I can’t wait to share this process with all of you!
